Summer Bordem

I gets a little boring in the Summer time, just seems like I'm waiting around for Late Night so basketball season will get under way. However, one of the things that always keeps me entertained is the summer recruiting. What a circus this is turning into. So here are some of my thoughts on KU Recruiting.

* Tyler Zeller - Not sure I'm that disappointed in missing out on this kid....I know, I know, but he is a 5 star. There hasn't been a dominating white 7 foot white kid in I don't know how long. Serveral years ago KU got David Padget, yeah we don't miss him. Brian Butch is another one that comes to mind, no thanks. Give me the unpolished kid that has some weight on him and is willing to get in there and bang with the bigs. Enough about this one, moving on.

* Travis Releford - Never seen the kid play, or for that matter none of these kids, but I like getting kids that have been fans for a long time, and a local kid for that matter. I'm anxious to see this kid in a Jayhawk uniform.

* Morgan (Arthur's old teammate) - Has the body that I would like to see in a uniform. A big question for me on most of these kids though is what is their work ethic. It's easy to get by in High School when you are that big. Well see what happens.

* Greg Monroe - I think it's a long shot, but hey I'm a pessimist.

* Willie Warren - Speaking of a Circus, If you haven't followed this recruitment much just go check out the PHOG Board and ask "What's the latest on Warren's recruitment", I promise you'll get some great responses. Sounds like a nice player, but I'm not that excited about it.

* For that matter, this class in general just doesn't seem like that great of class. Every time I catch an AAU game on TV or something it is always the next class you hear them talk about. One player in particular I would love to see in a Jayhawk uniform, Xavier Henry. Well stay tuned for that recruitment as well. But, it's bad that we will have to fill so many slots, wish we could wait to fill those slots with the 2009 class.

My final thought on recruiting is this; Don't get your panties in a wad about how many stars a kid has by his name on some recruiting site. I'm more concerned about whether our coach can evaluate talent (Which I think he can by the way), not whether he can see how many stars a kid is rated. Are the odds better if a kid is a 5 star compared to a 4 star or 3 star for that matter? I don't think so. Some quick examples:

* Jared Dudley (Boston College) Not Ranked, so I guess no stars. 1st Round Draft Pick,
* Al Horford (Florida) Four star, turned out pretty good I think!!!
* Alando Tucker (Wisconsin) Not Ranked, he's pretty good too.
* Deron Williams (Illinois) 4 star, wonder if they think he should be a 5 star now.

Any who, I'll get off my soap box now and get my self ready for some Jayhawk basketball this fall. I'm real excited about this year.

All things KU Relates

So, I am a big Basketball fan, and an even bigger KU fan. I thought I would start blogging about one of the things I enjoy most, KU Basketball. Hope you enjoy
